The infrastructure agreement announced Thursday by the White House and a bipartisan group of senators carves out $579 billion of common ground from the $2.25 trillion American Jobs Plan unveiled in March by President Joe Biden.

While the latest deal falls far short of what the White House and progressives want to see in a broader economic agenda, most of the remaining priorities -- including spending related to the environment, child care and elder care -- may move through Congress in the legislative vehicle of budget reconciliation.
