AUSTIN, Texas—A Dallas jury awarded $8.4 million to the widow of a pipefitter who died of mesothelioma after finding negligence and defective design and marketing by a number of asbestos companies (Gensler v. Hercules Inc.).
The jury in the Texas District Court, 68th Judicial District, found Hercules Inc., a subsidiary of Ashland Inc., 20 percent responsible for the illness and subsequent death of John Gensler.
Gensler and wife Martha Gensler also sued Dow Chemical Co., which was found 35 percent responsible, and Crane Co., which was found 5 percent responsible. Dow and Crane settled before trial. Eleven other ...
