3M Sues Over Michigan ‘Forever Chemicals’ Drinking Water Rules

Chemical giant 3M Co. is claiming Michigan regulators rushed the passage of fluorinated chemical drinking water regulations in violation of state administrative procedure rules.

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy and the state’s Environmental Rules Review Committee enacted some of the country’s stiffest standards for seven kinds of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in an arbitrary and capricious manner, according to a complaint 3M filed in the Michigan Court of Claims on Wednesday.
