The Biden administration is missing a self-imposed deadline for updating a government tool used to calculate greenhouse gases from the transportation and energy industries, forcing ethanol producers to wait longer to verify that they can qualify for sustainable aviation fuel tax credits.

US Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack signaled to farmers at a conference on Friday that the delay is due to federal policymakers wanting to be extra careful in determining how emissions-reduction efforts across the supply chain for crop-based biofuels are valued. The work will be completed within weeks, he said.
