An Indian couple living in Kansas pleaded guilty Sept. 9 to employing undocumented workers at a gas station and convenience store (United States v. Patel, D. Kan., 6:15-cr-10074, plea entered 9/9/15).
According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Satishkumar Patel, himself an undocumented immigrant, owned the Route 56 Express gas station and convenience store in McPherson, Kan.
An investigation was launched after Kansas Department of Revenue inspectors observed gas station employees selling tobacco products to minors. The investigators determined that the employees weren’t lawfully present in the U.S., nor were they authorized to work.
