Arizona Sheriff Arpaio to Face Criminal Contempt Charges

The Justice Department is bringing criminal contempt charges against Maricopa County, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio in connection with his alleged flouting of a federal court order in a lawsuit over his immigration enforcement practices.

During an Oct. 11 status hearing before Judge Susan Bolton of the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, the DOJ said it intends to bring charges against the sheriff. Arpaio is known for his hard-line stance on immigration and is a supporter of Republican presidential contender Donald Trump.
