XPO Inc. Retiree Files Would-be Class Suit Over Smoker Penalty

A former XPO Inc. employee filed a proposed class action saying the Connecticut-based transportation and warehousing company improperly charges higher health insurance premiums to workers who smoke.

Defendants XPO and GXO Logistics Inc., which was created when XPO spun off its contracts logistics business in 2021, force workers who use tobacco products to pay an extra $1,200 per year to receive health-care coverage, the employee said in a complaint filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the District of Connecticut.
