Wife’s Murder Conviction Forecloses Retirement Account Payout

The widow of a deceased Intel Corp. employee can’t receive his retirement benefits because she was convicted of his murder, the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit held.

All relevant state and federal laws prohibit people from financially benefiting from murders they commit, the Ninth Circuit said in an unpublished opinion issued Tuesday. Defendant Tracy Cloud was criminally convicted for her husband’s intentional murder and can’t relitigate her guilt in a civil lawsuit over retirement benefits, the appeals court said.
