White House Officially Taps David Bernhardt for Interior Chief

The White House officially announced its intent to nominate Acting Interior Secretary David Bernhardt to run the agency overseeing the nation’s public lands.

President Donald Trump’s March 8 announcement follows his tweet Feb. 4 saying he would nominate Bernhardt to fill the post after Ryan Zinke resigned in December. Bernhardt has been the acting secretary since January.

“I am humbled by the President’s confidence in me to lead the Department of the Interior subject to confirmation,” Bernhardt said in a tweet.
