Unum, Provident Owe Disability Pay After Doctor’s Hard Pregnancy

A doctor who experienced fatigue and endurance issues after a difficult pregnancy is entitled to disability benefits from Unum Life Insurance Co. of America and Provident Life & Accident Insurance Co., a federal judge ruled.

The insurers mishandled the doctor’s claim by failing to consider the specific demands of her job as a pediatric dermatologist and by overemphasizing her ability to do other activities, Judge Judith E.
