Unum, Keolis Beat Family Lawsuit Seeking $389K in Benefits

Unum Corp. and Keolis Commuter Services LLC don’t have to pay supplemental life insurance benefits to the family of a woman who allegedly enrolled and paid premiums to the plan while undergoing cancer treatment.

Unum’s decision that no supplemental coverage for the woman ever took effect because there was no evidence of insurability wasn’t arbitrary or capricious, Judge Leo T. Sorokin of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts held March 20.
