United, JetBlue, Others Seek to Stop Washington Sick Leave Law

A coalition encompassing major U.S. airlines that include American Airlines, United, JetBlue, and Southwest, as well as FedEx and UPS, is urging a federal court to declare Washington state’s new paid sick leave law unconstitutional.

Allowing Washington to require and regulate the establishment and use of paid sick leave for pilots and flight attendants frustrates the uniform system of federal aviation regulation, Airlines for America, a nonprofit that represents the country’s major airlines, said in a lawsuit filed Feb. 6.
