Uber to Pay Seattle Drivers $3.4 Million For Sick Leave Rule (1)

Uber Technologies Inc. will pay $3.4 million for alleged violations of Seattle’s Covid-19 gig worker sick leave rule, the city’s Office of Labor Standards said Thursday.

The settlement will cover more than 15,000 Seattle drivers who were guaranteed leave under the Gig Workers Paid Sick and Safe Time Ordinance, which the city implemented last summer.

Seattle’s temporary rule allows certain gig workers access to paid leave from app-based companies based on the worker’s “average daily compensation” during their highest-earning month.
