Teamsters Pension Loses Suit Over Dairy Group’s $41 Million Bill

A Teamsters pension fund lost its lawsuit seeking to force companies connected to a bankrupt dairy operation to make payments under a settlement agreement negotiated in connection with the entity’s withdrawal from the fund.

The Central States, Southeast & Southwest Areas Pension Fund doesn’t have a viable case against Laguna Dairy and related companies, because federal pension law doesn’t authorize lawsuits to enforce private settlement agreements, the US District Court for the District of Delaware said in a Nov. 17 opinion.
