Supreme Court Declines to Review Ex-NFL Player’s Claim for Increased Pension Benefits

The U.S. Supreme Court announced Jan. 7 that it will not review a former National Football League player’s claim for increased pension benefits from the NFL retirement board (Morris v. National Football League Retirement Board, U.S., 12-603).

In 2011, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida ruled that the NFL did not act arbitrarily and capriciously in denying the player’s claim, finding that the NFL reasonably interpreted the plan’s provision on early retirement in calculating the player’s benefits (51 EBC 1161).
