Sequoia Benefits Defeats Health Plan Kickback Lawsuit, For Now

Two health plan participants who accuse Sequoia Benefits & Insurance Services LLC of running a $100 million kickback scheme through a group insurance program hit a roadblock in their lawsuit Monday, when a San Francisco federal judge ruled they hadn’t shown how the alleged scheme injured them.

Rachael Wright Winsor and Nicole Beichle failed to show how their employee contributions toward health coverage would be lower if Sequoia hadn’t allegedly charged unlawful kickbacks to the insurers connected to the multiple employer insurance program, Magistrate Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley held.
