The Senate May 25 rejected a motion to bring the House budget resolution (H. Con. Res. 34) to the chamber’s floor by a vote of 40 to 57.
A handful of Republicans joined Democrats in voting against the motion, which required 51 votes to pass. While largely symbolic, the vote forced Republicans to go on record about whether they support the House budget plan, including its overhaul of both Medicare and Medicaid.
The House plan would convert Medicare into a premium support voucher program for those currently younger than age 55 and change Medicaid into a block grant program.
