Senate Duo Aims to Extend Winning Streak on Retirement Bills

It may only be a matter of time before some, if not all, of the latest retirement savings changes hashed out by Senate tax writers Ben Cardin (D-Md.) and Rob Portman (R-Ohio) get inked into law.

The bipartisan dealmakers have co-authored 19 pension- or retirement-related bills over the past two decades. Nearly half of those proposals contributed to legislative bundles signed by every president dating back to Bill Clinton. They unveiled their 20th collaboration, the Retirement Security and Savings Act (S. 3781), in the last Congress “as a marker for 2019,” according to Senate staff.
