A Rockwell Automation Inc. retiree who says the company shortchanges the pensions of certain married workers lost his bid to certify his case as a class action covering 438 people.

Mark Berube’s proposed class includes workers who, like him, earned pension benefits in the form of a traditional, single life annuity, along with workers who earned their benefits in the form of an annuity that includes 10 years of guaranteed payments.
