Retirement Savings Vet Portman Takes Control of Pension Panel

Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) is now in charge of the Senate Finance Committee’s panel on Social Security, pensions, and family policy, a post he said he’ll use to champion long-overdue retirement fixes.

The accomplished policy wonk has co-authored a handful of retirement tax bills with Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) that ultimately became law. The duo unveiled their latest legislative package, the Retirement Security and Savings Act of 2018 (S. 3781), late last year.
