Retirement Savings Bill Passes House With Overwhelming Backing (1)

House lawmakers May 23 approved a retirement savings package that Senate tax writers have been waiting years to get their hands on.

The modified Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement Act (H.R. 1994) passed 417-3. The bipartisan bill is designed to bolster existing retirement plans and spur the creation of new ones, and it also features a technical correction to the 2017 tax bill that both parties agreed needed to be fixed. The retirement legislation came under fire earlier in the week when Democrats removed provisions that would have saved home schoolers money.
