Religiously Oriented Colleges Win Injunction Against Government’s Contraceptive Mandate

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa entered a preliminary injunction precluding the Obama administration from enforcing the contraceptive coverage provisions of the Affordable Care Act’s preventive services mandate against two religiously oriented colleges (Dordt Coll. v. Sebelius, N.D. Iowa, C 13-4100-MWB, 5/21/14).

Judge Mark W. Bennett said in the May 21 opinion that he originally intended to wait to rule on the preliminary injunction motion filed by Dordt College and Cornerstone University until after the U.S. Supreme Court had decided Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. v. Sebelius 58 DTR K-2, 3/26/14.
