Raytheon Co. made a $1 billion pretax discretionary contribution to its pension plan in the fourth quarter of 2017, the defense contractor reported in its latest securities filing.
The contribution was a result of “better-than-expected cash in the quarter and full year,” Thomas A. Kennedy, Raytheon’s chief executive officer, said during a Jan. 25 earnings call discussing both fourth quarter and year-end results. The company reported in October that it made required pension contributions of $574 million for the first three quarters of 2017.
