Procter & Gamble Smoker Penalty Lawsuit Adds to Growing List

Procter & Gamble Co. is the latest employer to be sued over its practice of charging extra fees for health-care coverage to employees who smoke.

The proposed class action, filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, accuses the consumer products manufacturer of wrongly imposing a $30 monthly surcharge on tobacco-using employees covered by its health plan without providing a legally compliant way to have the penalties waived.
