PPG Retirees Want 500-Person Class in Life Insurance Lawsuit

PPG Industries Inc. retirees want a federal judge in West Virginia to certify a class of more than 500 who say their life insurance benefits were wrongly terminated when the company sold its commodity chemicals operations in 2013.

The retirees say the Georgia Gulf Corp. merger transferred responsibility for their life insurance coverage to the newly formed Axiall Corp., despite PPG “knowing and intending” that Axiall would eliminate the benefits.

The retirees charge PPG with multiple violations of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act in their suit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia. ...
