PPG Gets OK for $7.65M Retiree Health Benefits Settlement

PPG Industries Inc.‘s $7.65 million settlement with retirees challenging cuts to their health benefits received preliminary court approval Feb. 4.

The deal also requires PPG to continue covering varying levels of health benefits for certain retirees through 2025. About 6,033 union workers who retired from 13 PPG facilities across the country will benefit from the deal.

The lawsuit, filed 13 years ago, accused PPG of unilaterally reducing retirees’ health coverage and ultimately shifting them from company-paid coverage to a subsidized health reimbursement arrangement.
