Pension Actuary Asks SCOTUS to Undo $750,000 Ruling Against Fund

Horizon Actuarial Services LLC is jumping into a $750,000 pension battle to urge the U.S. Supreme Court against placing limits on how multiemployer pension funds and their actuaries calculate what employers owe when they withdraw from pension funds.

Horizon, an actuarial consulting firm that advises more than 120 pension and health funds covering unionized workers, wants the Supreme Court to undo a January decision in which the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit sided with Metz Culinary Management Inc. in a dispute with the National Retirement Fund.
