Ohio Nursing Home Company Accused of Letting Benefits Lapse

An Ohio nursing home company let its workers’ health coverage lapse without notice while continuing to deduct premium payments from their paychecks, according to a proposed class action filed in the Southern District of Ohio.

Three recent employees of Hillstone Healthcare Inc. accused the company and three high-level board members of failing to pay premiums on the company’s health and welfare benefit plans. The company instead pocketed the benefit plan contributions deducted from workers paychecks, causing workers to rack up considerable medical bills that they must pay out-of-pocket, the Sept. 6 lawsuit alleges.
