NBA Referee Fired Over Covid Shot Rule Wins $2.9 Million Pension

A National Basketball Association referee who was terminated for refusing to receive the Covid-19 vaccine won $2.9 million in a lawsuit saying he was wrongly denied pension benefits under the league plan.

The US District Court for the Southern District of New York’s Monday judgment entitles former referee Kenneth Mauer to a lump sum of more than $2.9 million, along with 8.5% interest. It follows a March opinion determining that Mauer had experienced a “termination of employment” entitling him to benefits under the league pension plan.
