Nine laid-off Atmel Corp. workers who collectively won nearly $630,000 in severance benefits from Microchip Technology Inc. failed to convince a Northern District of California judge to boost those benefits by 10%.
The workers said the extra money was necessary to make them whole after Microchip delayed in paying them severance after it acquired their company in 2016. Judge Haywood S. Gilliam Jr. disagreed in a Sept. 3 order, saying the workers didn’t put forth any evidence of the actual nature or amount of harm that would be redressed by the extra payments.
