Mental Health Parity Proposal Reaches White House for Review

The White House is reviewing a proposal updating mental health parity requirements that employers that sponsor health plans have been calling for.

The proposal is meant to clarify plans’ and issuers’ obligations under the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 (MHPAEA, Public Law 110-343). The law requires most health plans or health insurers that offer mental health substance use disorder coverage to make the benefits comparable to medical and surgical benefits.
