Medical Mutual of Ohio Sued Over Cancer Coverage Termination

Medical Mutual of Ohio was hit with a proposed class action by cancer patients who say their health insurance coverage for the disease was improperly terminated in the aftermath of a corporate acquisition.

The lawsuit, docketed Monday in the US District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, stems from Medical Mutual’s 2022 acquisition of Reserve National Insurance Co., which provided supplemental insurance coverage for cancer and other specified diseases. The plaintiffs are cancer patients whose employer-sponsored health plans included this coverage option who say they were notified shortly after the acquisition that the coverage would be terminated.
