McKesson CEO to Retire With Corporate America’s Biggest Pension

When John Hammergren retires from McKesson Corp. next year, he’ll begin collecting corporate America’s largest pension.

Hammergren accumulated a pension worth as much as $159 million during his 17 years as chief executive officer of the drug and medical supplies distributor. In 2014, he voluntarily reduced the amount to $114 million after shareholders criticized the San Francisco-based company’s executive-compensation practices as overly generous.

Still, it’s the largest pension of all CEOs in the S&P 500, according to the Bloomberg Pay Index. Others include Prudential Financial Inc.’s John Strangfeld, who’s set to retire in April with a payout worth $90.3 ...
