Marriott Inks $250,000 Settlement Over English-Only Notices

Marriott International Inc. will pay $250,000 to resolve a class action challenging the English-only notices of health coverage that it sends to former employees, the parties told a federal judge in Tampa, Fla.

The settlement will provide a net payment of about $5 to each of 19,175 workers who received allegedly deficient notices of their rights under the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act.

If any settlement checks go uncashed, the remaining money will be donated to Bay Area Legal Services, a nonprofit law firm serving low-income residents in Tampa, the parties said.
