IRS Updates Information on FATCA List, Says Financial Institution Can Change Name

All financial institutions that have been assigned Global Intermediary Identification Numbers (GIINs) will appear on the Internal Revenue Service’s list under the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act, but the rules for branches and limited financial institutions are more complex, the IRS said on its website.

In a June 26 update to its frequently asked questions and answers on FATCA, the IRS also said a financial institution (FI) can change its name through the online registration system—a change that will then appear on the next published list of registered institutions.
