Insurance Recipient After Fatal Shooting Uncertain, Judge Says

A lawsuit asking who should receive a $250,000 insurance payout after a woman was fatally shot in the chest will be paused while a criminal case against the woman’s romantic partner moves forward.

There’s a factual dispute as to whether the named beneficiary of the woman’s various insurance policies shot her intentionally or accidentally, Judge David C. Nye said Thursday. Nye dismissed the insurer, Unum Life Insurance Co. of America, from the case and put the proceedings on hold until the criminal case is resolved, saying the outcome of that case will provide “clarity” as to the proper recipient ...
