Hartford, Cancer Patient Settle Revived Disability Benefits Suit

Hartford Life & Accident Insurance Co. reached a settlement with a prostate cancer patient whose lawsuit seeking disability benefits was revived last year by the Second Circuit.

The parties reached a tentative agreement to settle all claims, except for plaintiff John McQuillin’s claim for attorneys’ fees, according to a letter filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York. The parties are exploring whether they can resolve the attorneys’ fee issue through private negotiation or mediation, they told Judge Joanna Seybert in the letter.
