Giant Eagle’s $668,750 Retirement Fee Deal Gets First Approval

July 24, 2025, 3:10 PM UTC

Giant Eagle Inc. received preliminary court approval for a $668,750 class settlement with workers challenging the fees associated with the Pennsylvania-based grocery chain’s retirement plan.

The agreement, which is slated to benefit more than 15,000 people covered by the Giant Eagle plan since August 2018, resolves allegations that the plan paid excessive annual recordkeeping fees that averaged out to about $88 per person. Judge Patricia L. Dodge granted preliminary approval to the deal and scheduled a Nov. 20 fairness hearing in an order docketed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
