Expedia Worker Sues Reliance Standard for Covid Disability Pay

A former Expedia Inc. product manager who contracted Covid-19 in February 2020 sued Reliance Standard Life Insurance Co. for disability benefits, telling a Seattle federal judge she can’t work on account of brain fog, fatigue, chronic pain, and double vision.

The employee accuses Reliance Standard of improperly denying her claim for long-term disability benefits based on the conflicted opinions of paid medical consultants who reviewed her paperwork without examining her. These consultants rejected the opinions of her treating physicians and “consistently belittled” her claims of brain fog and cognitive dysfunction, according to the May 13 lawsuit.
