Ex-Simpson Thacher Lawyer Gets Fees After Disability Pay Award

A former mergers and acquisitions partner at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP who won $20,000 in monthly disability benefits from Provident Life & Casualty Insurance Co. is also entitled to about $490,000 in fees, costs, and interest.

A Manhattan federal judge awarded Edward Chung all his requested attorneys’ fees and costs—about $375,000—saying his request was “significantly lower” than the presumptively reasonable fees calculated by looking at appropriate hourly rates and the amount of work done.

Chung is also entitled to about $115,000 in interest on his disability payments, which represents a 9% rate over the three-year stretch between when benefits ...
