Court Certifies Two Class Actions Alleging Improper Copayment, Coinsurance Charges

The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri partially certified as a class action Sept. 10 a lawsuit brought by a former member of a health maintenance organization plan offered by Coventry Health Care of Kansas Inc. alleging that Coventry violated state law by overcharging for copayments on prescription medication (Holling-Fry v. Coventry Health Care of Kansas Inc.).

The court also partially certified as a class action Sept. 10 a similar lawsuit filed by a former HMO member against Coventry alleging that Coventry violated state law by charging copayments and coinsurance for the same health care ...
