Corteva’s E.I. du Pont Sees Pension Math Lawsuits Inch Forward

Retirees suing Corteva Inc.'s E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. are poised to largely advance a pair of proposed class actions saying their pensions have been improperly shortchanged.

The cases involve two options available under the chemicals company’s retirement plan: pensions that make post-death payments to a retiree’s surviving spouse, and early-retirement pensions that include higher monthly payments in the years before a retiree begins collecting Social Security benefits. Magistrate Judge Laura D. Hatcher on Wednesday recommended that key aspects of both cases be allowed to move forward.
