CMS Selects 89 New Participants For Medicare Shared Savings Program

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services July 9 announced 89 new accountable care organizations have been selected to participate in the second wave of the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP).

The ACOs began participating July 1, serving 1.2 million Medicare beneficiaries in 40 states and Washington, D.C. ACOs are organizations formed by groups of doctors and other health care providers that have agreed to work together to coordinate patient care—in this case for people covered by Medicare.
