Clean Harbors Gets First OK for $395,000 Retirement Plan Deal

A $395,000 settlement benefiting employees of Clean Harbors Environmental Services Inc. received initial court approval, paving the way for resolution of a lawsuit over the waste management company’s retirement plan.

The agreement is expected to benefit about 18,000 people covered by the Clean Harbors 401(k) plan since April 2016. It reflects about 10% of the alleged plan losses sought during the parties’ mediation process, according to the settlement motion.

Judge George A. O’Toole Jr. of the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts signed the preliminary approval order Monday. He also scheduled a Dec. 12 fairness hearing.
