Cigna to Face Trimmed Suit Over MultiPlan Provider Payment Rates

Cigna Health & Life Insurance Co. must face claims by individual patients challenging its reimbursement rates for doctors in the MultiPlan Corp. network, but it’s free from claims brought by state medical associations.

Judge Omar A. Williams of the US District Court for the District of Connecticut allowed the patients, who seek to represent thousands of people covered by Cigna-insured health plans, to advance claims for denied benefits and fiduciary breach under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.
