Cigna Retirees’ Latest Objection Fails in Prolonged Pension Suit

Cigna Corp. retirees who’ve spent two decades litigating over their pension benefits with substantial success lost their latest challenge to how the company is recalculating benefits in connection with various court orders.

The retirees failed to convince Judge Sarala V. Nagala that Cigna is violating prior court orders by calculating the benefits of certain workers who’ve already received lump sums by using inappropriate interest rates when accounting for the payouts. Cigna appears to be in compliance with these orders, Nagala said, noting that the calculations in question didn’t implicate the same set of concerns driving prior court orders.
