Cigna Reaches Class Settlement Over Provider List Coding Error

Cigna Health & Life Insurance Co. reached a class-wide settlement of a family’s lawsuit accusing the insurer of wrongly failing to maintain an up-to-date list of in-network medical providers.

The family says the settlement is worth more than $5.7 million and will benefit about 1,460 people who were affected by a purported coding error. Most of the settlement’s value—more than $4.6 million—is tied to Cigna’s agreement not to reprocess the claims affected by the error, which the family says could subject class members to additional bills from their medical providers.
