Cigna Corp. and its subsidiaries are accused of colluding with third-party vendors to charge extra fees to insureds who seek chiropractic services.
Cigna secretly inflated payments for claims and forced plans and participants to pay administrative fees to its vendors, including American Specialty Health Inc., a third-party claims processor that specializes in chiropractic services, according to a lawsuit filed April 16 in federal court in Pennsylvania.
The scheme, allegedly devised by Cigna and its subsidiaries, ripped off millions of dollars annually from members and employers who sponsored Cigna health plans, the lawsuit said.
Cigna and ASH declined to comment.
