Cigna Gets Employers’ Backing in Appeal Over Claims Denials

Groups representing employer-sponsored health plans are looking to weigh in to support Cigna’s denial of $8.6 million in claims that plaintiffs say pushed an out-of-network California mental health provider out of business.

The ERISA Industry Committee (ERIC), the American Benefits Council, and the California Association of Health Plans last month asked the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit for permission to file an amicus brief supporting Cigna Health and Life Insurance Co. and Cigna Behavioral Health Inc.
