Cigna Fights Doctor Group’s $6 Million Covid Testing Lawsuit

Cigna Health & Life Insurance Co. is fighting a Connecticut medical practice’s lawsuit seeking more than $6 million in reimbursements for Covid-19 testing costs, telling a federal judge the practice is engaged in “price gouging” and an “elaborate business enterprise to exploit a national health emergency for profit.”

Murphy Medical Associates LLC’s practice of “gross over-charging” for Covid tests has attracted “widespread press coverage,” patient complaints, and even the attention of the Connecticut Attorney General’s Office, Cigna said in a motion to dismiss filed April 16 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut.
